About Christina

In November 1999 I came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ by an act of God’s sovereignty. Today, as the old hymn says, “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness.”

I adhere to Reformed/Calvinistic Theology. I affirm the Five Solas of the Reformation, and the Doctrines of Grace as revealed in God’s Word.

I am from Brooklyn, NY  where I currently live with my husband and best friend Steven. I teach women’s Bible study at my church and gladly serve in various capacities.

I have a BA in Religious Studies & Sociology from St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT.  I currently work in the financial industry.

Some of my favorite books include: The Bible; Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan; The Doctrines of Grace: Recovering the Evangelical Gospel by James Montgomery Boice and Philip Graham Ryken; The Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges; Unpacking Forgiveness by Chris Brauns; and Against Calvinism: Logical Arguments to Disprove the Doctrines of Grace by Jeff Peterson, Eddie Eddings and Jon J. Cardwell

Some of my interests include American History — particularly the American Revolution and colonial America, politics, baking cakes and pastries, and cooking various regional cuisines. I also love to spend time with my two dawgies Sam and Jake.

I love to laugh — I’ve learned not to take myself too seriously. I love the church, I love children, and like many other pilgrims whose hope is set on things above, I am waiting for my Lord’s return.

So I came across your blog from the comment you left on DashHouse.com. And I’m curious, how in the world did you go from a BA in Religious Studies and Sociology to working in investment banking!?

  2. Ryan says:

Unfortunately my blog isn’t much….I meant to use it while I was doing an internship in Thailand to communicate back home with friends, family, and supporters. It didn’t happen as much as I would’ve liked. I have another blog, but it was mostly written while I was in high school, and my perspectives, particularly politically, have drastically changed.

But I hope to turn my current blog into more of a common thing again. Starting with a lot of thoughts that have been brewing in my mind after seeing Avatar!

So you were able to get a job on Wall Street without a finance background? What exactly do you do?

I just graduated in May and studied International Relations and International Development. I’m interested in development work, but right now I want to be back in the States. I might be able to get a job at an NGO’s headquarters, but there’s a lot of people, and few jobs. So I’m looking at other stuff for now too.

I saw from your latest post that you’re at least part puertorriqueña! I have a specific love for Latin America….!

    El Gringo Loco!

Well, all I can say is that after graduating I was not qualified to do much along the way of making a living. I took a position at a Wall Street firm (just because I needed a job) and well, the rest is history! Despite all it’s challenges I like Wall Street because it is one of the few places where your “resume” matters less than what you actually do.

Thanks for stopping by, and I look forward to checking out your blog later on! God bless you!

    Hi Ryan,

Did you like Thailand? My husband and I are big Thai food fans. There are some wonderful restaraunts in NYC. Let me know when you start blogging again – I will look forward to reading what you share.

Also, that’s a wonderful degree that you earned. I pray God bless you as you look for a job. God has a wonderful way of tying things all together so don’t worry too much if you can’t figure out everything that’s going on! Have a beautiful day!

    Your friend & sister,
    Christina

HI God bless, interesting blog, I discovered it while reading the comments on a Tim Challies post. I live in Brooklyn as well, any places you recommend in finding a job in the financial world. I graduated college and where I am working is not challenging enough. I too would like to go to a place “where your resume matters less than what you can do” any advise is welcome.

    God Bless
    Edwin

      Hi Edwin,

It’s a pleasure to meet you! Unfortunately, the only counsel I have for someone considering Wall Street of Finance is “RUN!” Of course, that is an exaggeration but the landscape of the in industry has changed greatly.

Like anything else however, if you are truly are determined, you will have to work very hard.

It’s great to meet a fellow Brooklynite in the Lord!

      Blessings!

    Hi Christina,

I am so blessed to have run across your website, I think through Calvinistic Cartoons. At any rate, I’ve been reading through a few of the articles and will have to adjust how I’ve linked Heavenly Springs on my blog: “A devotional blog for the sisters.” I’ll have to change that to read “A devotional blog for the saints.” Men, as well as women, will enjoy your site, as I certainly do.

Thank you also for your encouraging comments. I am truly blessed to have met you. May the Lord continue to truly bless you in your incredible service to Christ and your witness of love for Him.

P.S. I love both the top & bottom photos of you & your husband: Elation and Elegance. It reflects a life in Christ: Joy & Holiness.

    • Christina says:

Thank you so much for your kind words! I consider it a tremendous compliment that someone of your stature would consider my little blog to be a good one!

It’s an amazing thing — technology, isin’t it? To be connected so instantly to brothers and sisters who share the same heart and mind for the Lord is a beautiful thing! We would have had to wait until heaven to get to know eachother!

May the Lord bless you and your family. May He hear your prayers and answer you in His righteousness!

You are a blessing to me my dear brother and I am thankful for you!!

  7. Hi

I appreciative this blog very much for its heart, the grace of God.

I would like to have your Blog in German for other German speaking people.

It’s a toss up between you and Holly Dye’s blog…both are fabulous! :)

    • Christina says:

Awww…are you kidding me? I love Holly’s blog — that’s a huge compliment to me to even be considered in the same category!

At any rate, thank you so much for the encouragement, brother! Also, thank you for subscribing. I just saw that you are my neighbor, too — Jersey? We all (our families) need to meet in the near future!

Love and blessings to you my dear brother!

      • Joel says:

Jersey huh….just curious where it said that. Oh well, we are taking a vacation out there this summer, my brother-in-law lives out in Jersey somewhere. We will be seeing NY too, will be out there for a week….

      • Christina says:

How crazy is that? I get a notice whenever someone subscribes to my blog that includes where it “appears” that person is from. You “appear” to be from Livingstone, NJ. But, I just read your FB comment where you piece it all together so now we know where all the confusion started! : ) Perhaps we can meet when you are in town this summer! You ain’t had pizza till you’ve had Brooklyn pizza!!! ; )

  10. Joel says:

This is a little funny…a go back and forth from fb to here. Hehe….oh well. :)

    • Christina says:

Thank you so much brother Jon! We love you and Lisa and could never put in words how thankful we are for you. You have refreshed these weary souls in more ways than one. All our love and blessings and thank you for your faithfulness! That, in and of itself, is an encouragement to press on! Hopeful for a visit next summer!

I just came across your blog with a link from Trisha’s blog. Your latest post was straight from God to me and so much comfort to my soul in my current trial. Praise God for you and this lovely blog!

    Hello Christina,

It is great to have found your blog/website. I run a blog/website myself, womenofchristianity.com.
I was wondering if it may be possible to gain permission to add some of the articles to that website from the “Women of the Reformation” section. Thank you.

    Sincerely in Christ.
